The Aleshan Syndrome is an opposite to Stockholm Syndrome.〔Cantopher, T. (2007). Stress-related illness. (1 ed., Vol. 1). Sheldon Press.〕 When a person is victim of a violent crime, they experience repulsion towards everything similar or reminding of the perpetrator. In severe cases the repulsion may be for a whole gender, race or ethnicity. Evidence for this theory was acquired by investigation of rape cases, but is presumed to be universal. This syndrome is not gender-specific. Mary Jo Buttafuoco argues that people who live with sociopaths and other violent people tend to get involved with these individuals because they have felt betrayal and hatred towards their attackers.〔Jo Buttafuoco, M. (2012). Getting It Through My Thick Skull: Why I Stayed, What I Learned, and What Millions of People Involved with Sociopaths Need to Know. New York: Health Communications Inc.〕 There has been over 100 reported cases in NYC the worst of which lead to 6 deaths. It is estimated that over 10,000 people might have this disease. Capgras Syndrome may develop in as many as a third of the cases and is atributed to having caused several violent outbursts. Aboulomania might also be present in as many as 2 sevenths of the cases and is caused by fear of not being able to defend from another attack. ==References== * Fries, A.
